Uniroc Mortar FC

Cementitious polymer modified fairing coat

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

UNIROC MORTAR FC is supplied as ready to use blend of dry powders requiring only the addition of clean water to produce a highly consistent, polymer modified fairing mortar. UNIROC MORTAR FC is based on a blend of special cements and well graded aggregates, fillers and chemical additives, to provide a product with excellent thermal compatibility with concrete and good handling characteristics.

PROPERTIES

When UNIROC MORTAR FC is mixed with water in water : powder ratio of 0.3 : 1.0 by weight and temperature of 20 oC the following results were obtained:

Coefficient of thermal expansion: 7 to 12 x 10-6/oC
Working Life: 20 minutes depending on ambient temperature
Wet Density: 2000 kg/m3
Setting Time: 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on ambient temperature

APPLICATION

Preparation
The substrate surface must be clean and free of any oil, grease, plaster, paint or other contamination. The surface is roughened to remove any laitance and expose the fine aggregate
by light scrabbling or grit-blasting. Oil and grease deposits should be removed by steam cleaning or by the use of detergents.

Mixing
UNIROC MORTAR FC is thoroughly mixed before use. Quantities up to 10 Kg are best mixed by hand using a mixing drum or bucket. Bigger quantities are mixed using a forced - action mixer. For best results when preparing small quantities, three volumes of UNIROC MORTAR FC powder are added to one volume of drinking quality water placed in a bucket and mix vigorously for a minimum of 3 minutes. For larger volumes, place 7 to 8 litres of drinking quality water into the mixer and, with the machine in operation, add one full 25 kg bag of UNIROC MORTAR FC and mix for a minimum of 3 minutes and maximum of 5 minutes. Depending on the temperature the amount of water should vary but should not exceed 8 litres per 25 kg bag.

Placement
UNIROC MORTAR FC is applied to the prepared substrate by steel trowel as a scrape coat of minimum thickness. It should be applied with the minimum of working and be allowed to partly set before finally trowelling to a smooth finish. For a smoother finish a small amount of water is flicked on to the surface of the UNIROC MORTAR FC with a paintbrush prior to trowelling. The maximum applied thickness of UNIROC MORTAR FC is 3 mm.

Curing
UNIROC MORTAR FC does not require any curing in moderate ambient conditions, but under strong drying conditions curing is necessary using a curing membrane supplemented if need be with polythene sheeting.

MAIN USES

UNIROC MORTAR FC is intended for application in thin layers to produce a fair-faced finish to concrete or masonry surfaces so as to receive a protective/decorative coating. Surface corrections up to 3 mm in depth can be filled with scrape-coat applications.

ADVANTAGE

  • Easy to use with no need for a primer or curing membrane necessary
  • Excellent bonding to concrete substrate
  • Chloride-free
